Welcome to the Big Apple - Saturday 3rd October

Despite all the warnings & worries about Hurricane Joaquin the weather today was dry, cold & just a little windy in the Big Apple.  So the group arrived right on schedule this morning into New Jersey's Newark Liberty Airport.
We immediately began our sightseeing, driving into New York City through the Lincoln Tunnel, under the Hudson River, past Times Square on our way to Grand Central Terminal where we arrived in perfect time for lunch.
Afterwards we met our local city guide, Mike, who took us on a bus & walking tour of Midtown Manhattan - along the way we saw Central Park, the Rockefeller Center, St. Patrick's Cathedral, the New York Public Library, Greenwich Village, Madison Square Park, the Empire State Building & much more.
Dinner this evening was in the Empire State Building & after eating we took the elevators to the 86th floor viewing deck for views across Manhattan, to the other 4 boroughs of the city, & beyond.
We ended our day at our hotel in New Jersey, tired after a long day & excited about tomorrow.

It was a grey but dry morning as the group arrived into Newark, with the Manhattan skyline just visible on the horizon.

 And a little chilly too!
